Launch of Books on Prescription Scheme
A new initiative is being started across libraries in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Westminster and Hammersmith & Fulham in June. The idea is that GPs and mental health professionals will be able to recommend over twenty different expert-endorsed self-help books to those suffering mental health problems.
For the launch the scheme, there will be an event on Wednesday 5 June at Brompton Library from 2pm to 4pm. It is open to health professionals and the general public to attend.
Self-help book have a lot of advantages over regular treatments, and just like the cleaners in Kensington, they are know to produce positive results, especially for people with mild ot moderate mental health disorders.
The scheme will offer patients the opportunity to understand and manage the condition with the aid of a book as an early intervention, an alternative or additional therapy.
